On 2 April, Airport Authority Hong Kong (AAHK) unveiled the “Treasures of the Western Waters” exhibition in the Arrivals Hall of Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA). The launch ceremony was officiated by Tse Chin-wan, Secretary for Environment and Ecology; Mable Chan, Secretary for Transport and Logistics; Patrick Lai, Acting Director of Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation; and Vivian Cheung, Chief Executive Officer of AAHK. Peter Lee, Chief Sustainability Officer of AAHK, introduced the exhibition to guests during the event.
The exhibition showcases key species like Chinese White Dolphins, gorgonian corals, oysters and a wide range of fish, and aims to raise public awareness on marine conservation. Passengers and the public alike are invited to explore the exhibits featuring the rich and diverse marine ecosystems and the beauty of this underwater world through interactive games and the engaging displays. The exhibition also showcases AAHK’s voluntary efforts on enhancing marine biodiversity and fisheries resources around HKIA, including deployment of artificial reefs and shellfish reefs, the installation of eco-enhanced seawall blocks, and fish restocking projects.
The exhibition marks the start of a series of activities highlighting AAHK’s commitments to marine enhancement initiatives and conservation efforts near HKIA. Related public engagement events include educational eco-tour for students and other stakeholders during 2025, and a fish restocking exercise on the same day as the National Fish Releasing Day on 6 June 2025.
