Hong Kong Aircraft Engineering Company (HAECO) has recently expanded the solar photovoltaic (PV) panel system at its base maintenance facility. An additional 2,200 solar PV panels has been installed on the rooftop of its Hangar 1 facility. Alongside the PV panels installed on the rooftops of Hangars 2 and 3 since 2022, HAECO now has more than 8,000 panels, making it the largest solar PV system of its kind on a single site in Hong Kong. The entire system can generate over 4,000,000 kWh of electricity annually – equivalent to the energy consumption of approximately 1,300 households and is comparable to the offset made by planting 72,000 trees. By participating in the Feed-in-Tariff scheme and purchasing Renewable Energy Certificates, the latest expansion of solar PV system on Hangar 1 alone is comparable to an annual carbon reduction of approximately 420 tonnes arising from the company’s operation.
The new panels have been in operation since January 2025 and are a testament to HAECO’s dedication to advancing toward net zero carbon emissions. This demonstrates its commitment to the HKIA 2050 Net Zero Carbon Pledge and efforts to combat climate change.
