Recognising that sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) is a key initiative for reducing carbon emissions in the aviation sector, Airport Authority Hong Kong (AAHK) supports and promotes the uplift of SAF at Hong Kong International Airport. AAHK has completed a comprehensive study on the use of SAF in Hong Kong which developed a range of strategic options to promote SAF uptake for consideration by the HKSAR Government.
AAHK has recently made significant contributions to sustainability dialogues by sharing insights on future SAF development in Hong Kong with experts from various sectors. Peter Lee, Chief Sustainability Officer of AAHK, participated in a roundtable hosted by the Democratic Alliance for the Betterment and Progress of Hong Kong in December 2024. At the roundtable, themed "Building Hong Kong into a Green Transport and Aviation Centre”, he discussed the opportunities and challenges associated with introducing SAF in Hong Kong.
In January 2025, at the Annual Symposium 2025 of the Hong Kong Sustainable Aviation Fuel Coalition, organised by the Business Environment Council, Peter Lee shared insights from AAHK’s SAF Study and engaged in a panel discussion aimed at exploring innovative financing and value chain development to strengthen SAF supply and demand in Hong Kong.
