AFSC leads full transition of GSE fleet to renewable diesel

27  February  2025

Three into-plane fuelling service companies at Hong Kong International Airport have collectively reached a significant milestone by fully transitioning their entire Ground Services Equipment (GSE) fleet to renewable diesel (RD). Led by AFSC Refuelling Limited (AFSC) in collaboration with CNAF Hong Kong Refuelling Limited and Worldwide Flight Services Fueling (Hong Kong) Ltd., the trial has adopted RD on over 60 GSE since December 2024. AFSC would further extend Hydro-treated Vegetable Oil (HVO) use to landside vehicles and emergency generators.

RD, also known as HVO, produced entirely from renewable resources such as waste animal fat and used cooking oil. This cleaner and more efficient burning drop-in fuel can reduce with up to 95% lower greenhouse gas emissions compared with conventional fossil diesel.

Since the commencement of Airport Authority Hong Kong (AAHK)’s RD pilot in April 2024, eight additional business partners have initiated their own RD pilots this year. AAHK supports airport business partners by subsidising RD trials through the HK$20 million HKIA Greenovation Fund, covering up to 80% of the green premium for the fuel.
