Airport participates in symposium to share experience on ecological enhancement and conservation efforts during large-scale airport expansion

16  September  2024

Airport Authority (AA) participated in the "Biodiversity and New Energies Symposium" organised by the Hong Kong and China Gas Company Limited (Towngas) on 15 August. Peter Lee, General Manager, Sustainability, shared insights with over 5,000 participants on steps to minimise impacts on the environment and local ecosystems and efforts to enhance biodiversity during major airport expansion.

In the panel discussion titled “Coexisting with Nature Harmoniously by Balancing Development and Ecology Conservation”, Peter emphasised AA’s voluntary and continuous efforts to understand and enhance local marine biodiversity and fisheries resources in the marine environment around HKIA. These efforts include the installation of eco-enhanced sections of seawall, deployment of artificial reefs and shellfish reefs, and fish fry releases. He also highlighted the Marine Ecology Enhancement Fund (MEEF) and the Fisheries Enhancement Fund (FEF), both established in 2016 to provide funding for initiatives and projects serving to enhance the marine environment, ecology and fisheries resources.
