(HONG KONG, 5 November 2024, 1630hrs) – Super Terminal Expo 2024, a major international event showcasing the latest developments in the world’s aviation, technology and transportation industries, launched its first Asian edition at Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA) today. The three-day function brought over 2,000 participants and about 100 exhibitors from all over the world.
As host airport of the event, HKIA is one of the few airports in the world leading in both passenger and cargo service, with extensive intermodal connectivity, as well as in technological applications to airport operations and passenger service.
Officiating the opening ceremony of the expo were Michael Wong, Acting Financial Secretary of Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) Government; Lam Sai-hung, Secretary for Transport and Logistics; Vivian Cheung, Acting Chief Executive Officer of Airport Authority Hong Kong (AAHK); Victor Liu, Director-General of Civil Aviation; Simon Li, Chairman of AsiaWorld-Expo and President of the Hong Kong International Aviation Academy; and Michael Duck, Executive Vice President, Commercial Development of Informa Markets Asia, the event’s organizer.
Michael Wong remarked in his welcome address, “The Three-runway System (3RS) will be commissioned later this month, on November 28. With 3RS, the HKIA will eventually be able to handle 120 million passengers and 10 million tonnes of cargo every year. It will make Hong Kong an even stronger aviation hub and allow us to serve the region and beyond even better. And for key stakeholders in the world’s aviation and logistics communities, this means a lot of business and profit opportunities.”
Vivian Cheung, said at the ceremony, “We feel privileged to bring this event to Hong Kong. At HKIA, innovation is the cornerstone of our operations. With our Three-runway System set to commence operations by the end of this month and other facilities of the Airport City opening in phases, the Airport City will become an iconic landmark in the Greater Bay Area and attract visitors from all around the world.”
Michael Duck said, “The ideas we generate in these halls can shape the future of terminal operations and design, influence aviation policies, and improve the passenger and cargo handling experience worldwide. So, I encourage each of you to approach this event not just as attendees, but as active participants in shaping the airports of tomorrow. Dive into those interesting discussions. Seek out different perspectives. Be bold with your ideas and generous with your insights.”
