AAHK Signs MoU to Support C919 Operation at HKIA

AAHK signs an MoU with SHACS on collaboration in supporting the home-developed C919 aircraft’s operation at HKIA and promotion to global markets.

(HONG KONG, 31 October 2024, 1500hrs) – Airport Authority Hong Kong (AAHK) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with COMAC Shanghai Aircraft Customer Service Co., Ltd. (SHACS) on collaboration in supporting the home-developed C919 aircraft’s operation at Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA) and promotion to global markets.

The MoU was signed by Steven Yiu, Executive Director, Airport Operations of AAHK and Zhu Ming, Vice President of SHACS. Yin Zonghua, Deputy Director of the Liaison Office of the Central People's Government in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region; Cui Jianchun, Commissioner of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the People's Republic of China in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region; Lam Sai-hung, Secretary for Transport and Logistics; Victor Liu, Director General of Civil Aviation; Vivian Cheung, Acting Chief Executive Officer, AAHK; and Li Ling, Vice President of Commercial Aircraft Corporation of China, Ltd (COMAC) witnessed the signing.

Under the MoU’s framework, AAHK and SHACS will collaborate to promote C919’s international flight operations at HKIA; strengthen training and exchanges on aircraft operation and maintenance; bolster studies on the standards and policies for the aircraft operation and relevant airport facilities at HKIA; as well as strengthen professional consultations on aviation-related services in the Greater Bay Area.

Vivian Cheung, Acting Chief Executive Officer of AAHK, said, “We are glad to commence this important partnership with COMAC. The home-developed aircraft represents the country’s advanced development in aircraft manufacturing technologies. At HKIA, aircraft manufacturers will enjoy our advantage of operating with globally recognised standards and extensive international connectivity as an international aviation hub. I look forward to contributing to the wider operations of C919 in the global markets through our cooperation with COMAC.”

C919 was first showcased outside the Mainland together with ARJ21 at HKIA in December 2023. On 1 June 2024, a C919 aircraft landed at HKIA, marking its first commercial flight outside the Mainland.
