(HONG KONG, 6 February 2021, 2300hrs) - In response to media reports concerning COVID-19 cases of workers for the Three-runway System (3RS) project and sites where workers had conducted work, Airport Authority Hong Kong (AA) is issuing the following statement:
The AA reiterates that works at the relevant sites where infected workers had conducted work have been suspended for 14 days since 31 January 2021 in accordance with advice from the Department of Health. The AA continues to monitor the sites to ensure that contractors comply with the suspension.
On 30 January, the Government issued a compulsory testing notice for workers at the relevant sites, and those who have stayed in the relevant sites for more than two hours. All relevant persons had already been tested. The AA has also launched a voluntary test scheme for all other 3RS workers. All workers can only resume work upon receiving negative results.
To safeguard the safety of persons at 3RS work sites, starting from 9 February, the AA is implementing tightened measures for all persons entering 3RS worksites and those entering 3RS work sites must be able to present a negative COVID-19 test result. Staff and workers on board a ferry to the work sites on 3RS reclaimed land will be required to produce a SMS showing COVID-19 negative test result issued within the preceding 14 days, which will be cross-checked against the person's HKID card. Those who fail to present a valid negative test result or refuse to present their HKID cards for verification will be arranged to return to the original departing pier, and will not be allowed entry into the work sites. This measure will be strictly enforced.
