(HONG KONG, 29 January 2021, 1430hrs) – The amendments to the existing Map of Restricted Area Order under the Airport Authority Ordinance (Cap. 483), made to reflect the changes in the boundaries of the Restricted Area arising from the latest developments in the facilities of Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA) and the construction of the Three-runway System (3RS) project, are effective from today. The relevant legislative amendments were gazetted on 27 November 2020.
The changes made to the boundaries of the Restricted Area are summarised as below:
- to expand the Restricted Area to cover an area abutting the existing northern seawall of HKIA for facilitating the tunnel construction works of the Automated People Mover (APM) system and Baggage Handling System of 3RS project;
- to expand the Restricted Area to cover an area abutting the existing northern seawall of HKIA for setting up an additional security control point to facilitate the construction of 3RS project;
- to expand the Restricted Area to cover the new depot for the APM system and its associated supporting offices, facilities and infrastructure at various levels for facilitating the commissioning and operation of the new APM Depot; and
- to expand the Restricted Area at Level 2 to Level 5 of the West Hall of the Terminal 1 to cover two sets of new escalators for improving access to the APM Route Recovery Line between West Hall of the Terminal 1 and Midfield Concourse.
